Opera is undeniably one of the most popular browsers. Millions of users enjoy the UI and performance of this browser as well as many neat features that were adopted by other browsers. Opera is a great tool for any web surfer. However, some users still do not know that you can switch between default search engines to enhance your experience. If you don’t like using Google or Yahoo!, switching to DuckDuckGo or Bing could a good idea.

Changing the default SE in Opera

In the address bar, type in “opera://settings” and press “ENTER”. In the new tab, you will see a section called “Search engine” where you can select from a list of standard search engines such as Google, Amazon, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo!

Adding other SE’s to the list

If you are not satisfied with the selection offered by Opera, you can modify the list by adding more search engines. Pressing the button “Manage search engines” will open a pop-up window where you can add up to 50 more entries. Click the button with the caption “Add” and go to the empty form that you need to fill.

·   Name the new search engine

·   Enter the keyword used to switch the search results to the ones produced by the SE of your choice

·   “URL with %s…” is a field where you must put %s after the URL in order to specify from which “part” of the website you will be receiving search results

·   Use POST is an optional box that is used by websites that employ POST queries over GET ones

·   If you are an advanced user of a search engine, you can also specify the query string which is an optional choice and will enhance search results from websites like Amazon that actually employ this feature
