Push notifications are considered either a blessing or a curse depending on who you ask. While some people enjoy being notified about a new piece of content or a new exciting product, many do not want to be disturbed by some nonsense every minute. In order to organize the notifications and stop receiving news about things you don’t care about, you will need to manage them.

Google Chrome users rejoice

Each operating system offers its own way to manage the push notifications. Chrome utilizes different methods depending on the OS.

Android users should:

01.   Locate the three dots icon and expand the menu

02.   In the expanded list search for “Site Settings”

03.   Go to “Notifications” and choose either “Asked first” or “Blocked”

04.   In some cases, users want to address the preferences for websites they are currently browsing. To do it, tap the “lock” icon next to the URL of the website.

Other OS:

01.   Launch the browser and open the menu

02.   In the list that appears go to “Settings”

03.   After scrolling the list to near the bottom, you will see “Advanced”

04.   Choose “Privacy and security” and locate the block captioned “Content Settings”

05.   The image of a bell and the corresponding caption is your next point of attention

06.   Toggle the switch adjacent to “Add before…”

07.   Choose between “Allow” or “Block”

Working with Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is a browser that many people consider the best in terms of usability and performance. We do not want to argue about it. It is a very popular browser and if you are using it, you need to learn how to manage push notifications:

01.   Launch the browser and type “about:preferences” in the address bar

02.   The new tab will contain a menu with a block called “Privacy & Settings”

03.   Click on it and look for the “Notifications” section with a button “Settings” next to it

04.   In the table, under the column “Status”, choose either “Allow” or “Block”

05.   When absolutely all “pushes” are undesired, just choose the “Block new requests…” checkbox below

06.   Don’t forget to “Save” the changes

Using Microsoft’s Baby Edge

If you are a person who loves the new Microsoft flagship browser, you will need to do the following in order to organize your push notifications:

01.   Expand the settings list by locating and clicking three obscure horizontal dots

02.   Go to “Advanced settings” and click on the button “View…” underneath

03.   In the section called “website permissions”, click on the button “Manage”

04.   You will see a list of websites that were granted a permission from the browser

05.   Clicking an entry will send you to a push notification permission page where you can toggle the permission

How to do it in Opera

Opera is another hugely popular browser available to users of all OS including Android, iOS, and Windows.

01.   In the address bar type in “opera://settings”

02.   Down below you will find a button called “advanced” that will open an array of options

03.   Go to “Privacy and Security” and locate the block captioned “Content settings”

04.   Go to “notifications” and toggle the slider adjacent to “Ask before…” to prevent automatic permissions

05.   In the list of websites that were granted a permission you can choose how their push notifications are handled

Managing push notifications in iOS and MACOS Safari

All users of Apple products are more accustomed to Safari than any other browser. Below are steps that you need to follow in order to organize push notifications:

01.   Launch the browser, go to preferences

02.    “Websites” is your next point of attention represented by a “globe” icon

03.   Navigate yourself to the Notifications section

04.   In the list, you will see all websites allowed to send notifications

05.   The button saying “allow” controls the permissions issued to these sites

06.   Click it to alternate their statuses between either “block” or “deny”

07.   The pattern of options can be applied to all other URLs by simply using the “Remove” option underneath the window.
